Rehydroxylation: a promising technique for ceramic dating

چکیده

Abstract The kinetics of expansion in ceramic materials due to rehydration and rehydroxylation was investigated since the early XX century as a cause crazing glazed ceramics. Since then, study mass gain has been studied extending monitored times modeling involved processes. In last 20 years, interest this process grew its possible application dating field, supporting well-established techniques such thermoluminescence optically stimulated luminescence. principle technique is based on fact that after firing all water hydroxyl molecules are desorbed from structure, cooling slowly adsorbed following mathematical law. Nowadays, correlation between time well established, but there still no agreement model process, reliable protocol date materials. However, promising results have reached, more efforts must be put into role parameters (storage temperature, activation energy, experimental setup…). Considerations point will shown, together with evidence collected at Lambda (Laboratory Milano Bicocca university for Dating Archaeometry).
